Pushrod length
I have a (what I'm told is) 97 block with a 94 head. The block has been resurfaced but NOT decked. The head has be resurfaced too. The cam is stock. Can I use stock length pushrods or do I need to order a checker and get a custom length made? Thanks.

Re: Pushrod length
Unknown. Just told it was a clean up. I bought this long block used/new with no pushrods.

Re: Pushrod length
The best way is to use a push rod measuring tool. Measure the rod length at zero lash and add your preload between 0.040" and 0.060". The unit from Comp Cams is a good one and not too expensive.

Re: Pushrod length
Agreed.. best to check it.. although if what you were told was true and barely anything was shaved.. Stock Pushrods should be fine.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!

Re: Pushrod length
Good point. For final verification once you've installed the factory push rods, you should achieve 1/2 to 2/3 turn from zero lash when torquing the rocker bolts.

Re: Pushrod length
Used the checker. Came up with 9.525 with the 0.060" preload. We'll see how she runs. I hope I did it correctly.

Re: Pushrod length
why are you going with .060" preload?

Re: Pushrod length
I read on here multiple times .040 to .060. Is this not correct?SilverXJ wrote:why are you going with .060" preload?

Re: Pushrod length
i have a pushrod measuring tool(tfs-9002) but nobody lists how much per turn it is. so can i just a pushrod and tighten it up to zero lash then but a dial indicator on it to see how much is compresses for preload? the lifters have been soaking in oil for about a year before i put them in the block last night
