Pushrod Checking tool help

Post by Stroker Ace »

Tell me if this is correct.

Aligned the Timing chain marks together (this should put the #2 cylinder at TDC correct?)
Installed a brand new lifter (not oiled or anything)
Dropped in the push rod checker
Torqued down the stock stamped rocker.
Adjusted the checking tool until it made contact with the rocker
Measured the tool and add preload (.040 to .060)

Ok, does it matter if I check the exhaust side or intake side?
Aligning the timing marks put the piston at TDC right?

I believe aligning the timing marks puts #1 at TDC. I would check both intake and exhaust and add .030-.040" for preload. And you might want to check more than one cylinder as well.

Make sure it is TDC on the compression stroke when both valves are closed.
Piston is also at TDC at the end of the exhaust/start of intake stroke (overlap). Both valves will be slightly open at that time and give an incorrect length.

Like Retlaw said 1 and 6 are up at timing mark alignment. You may have to rotate the crank another 360 deg.
make sure both valves are closed all the way.
