5.2 Magnum Valve Springs

Post by Jr. Mechanic »

I just remembered I have a set of low mileage stock springs from a 5.2 Magnum. Does anyone know if these would possibly work with the 4.0 head for an aftermarket cam? I don't remember the measurements of the springs off the top of my head but I was wondering if anyone has done this before. I'll probably just get a set of Mopar Performance springs but if I can recycle some parts I'm all for it.

They'd probably work fine as long as you use a cam with not more than 0.45" of valve lift. Installed height and spring pressures are the same as the stock 4.0 springs so there's no advantage in using the 5.2 springs except for the low mileage.

That's what I was after. If they're the same, I won't use them and will get aftermarket. I did go out to my shop and compare a Magnum spring with the springs from my 4.2 and they do appear to be identical.

Thanks!
