Crankshaft condition advice?

Any advice on this crankshaft? Other than a little bit of dirt from my handling it has one finger nail stopping scratch on right in the middle of an oil groove. I say just clean it up and run it. Main journals measure 2.499"/2.498" and rod journals measure 2.094". Harbor Freight micrometer, so not entirely sure of the accuracy there.

Yeah it doesn't look bad. I think it'll be fine after the journals are micropolished.

Needs a polishing. Then check size and clearances.

That engine was seriously neglected!, the fillet radius's are caked with carbon, they should be shinny clean, I agree with Silver, CLEAN! it and then check it, get it double checked with a quality mic, your specs are about .001 UNDER spec, it may need ground?

The machine shop is charging me $40 to get it polished. Supposedly no one in my area does crankshaft grinding anymore. At the worst I have to get 0.001 undersize bearings from the dealership.

Where do you live? I would check around to find a machine shop that can turn it, or send it out. This is an area you want right. Even if its polished doesn't mean it's round. It could be slightly egg shaped. You got to figure you are working with clearances that are the thickness of a hair. I wouldn't skimp here...My 2 cents.

Same day turn around, they polished it and checked the sizes. It seems my cheap micrometer measures 0.001 to 0.002 undersized. They said it was good for standard size bearings and that it was round within specification.

Don't forget to plastigauge during installation.. this will ensure that your clearances are correct.
