adjustable crankshaft position sensor

Does anyone know if a adjustable crankshaft sensor will raise timing when using a automatic transmission?.i read the the DIY CPS mod by silverxj and want to do one.i know Rock City use to sell one but it said in the add manual transmission only..if so i wonder why ?thanks.
