4.0 BLOCKS
I am shopping for an engine to build my stroker. It will be going in a 2003 TJ. I found one out of a 2000 Cherokee. Anyone know if this will work in a 2003 TJ? I know there have been some engine mount changes over the years, but don't know if the mounting locations on the blocks have been changed.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 4.0 BLOCKS
I think the block are different between the two vehicles
I seam to remember some one say that the water pump was mounted differently with different number of attaching bolts or something like that
Maybe the newer block they just made one design

Re: 4.0 BLOCKS
Well I did some research to find out what block I needed. I looked at several companies that sell rebuilt 4.0 engines. One company listed block and casting numbers. I don't remember which company, I just wrote down some info from their website.
Block # 53010327AB, 53010328AB; 99-04 Grand Cherokee and 00-06 Wrangler
Block # 53010449AA; 99-01 Cherokee and 99 Wrangler
Block # 53020514, 53020515; 98 Grand Cherokee
Block # 53020569, 341, 499; All 96-98 Cherokee and wrangler
I scored a 2000 Grand Cherokee Block # 530103228AB from intake to oil pan, no front accessories, for $80.00 off of craigs list. The guy selling it said it blew a head gasket and got coolant in the oil, so he changed it. I just need the block, rods and intake. I figure the intake alone was worth $80.00.

Re: 4.0 BLOCKS
Good info there. Definitely filing that as I was a bit confused which late model years had which block.

Re: 4.0 BLOCKS
Thanks for posting that info. We need details on block differences as well, such as bosses, mounts, etc., so that people can know what to expect(if they can simply bolt an early obd1 block in a 2000+ or have to have bosses tapped or reconfig accessories/ pulleys).

Re: 4.0 BLOCKS
I just picked up a complete engine out of a 99 WJ to stroke for my 96 XJ, for free!
I've been under the assumption that it should drop right in (I know it'll have different pump brackets and such). Now I'm not soo sure. What kind of problems am I going to run into?

I have a 2001 in my 94 xj...other than the vacuum line routing and the need for the temp gauge sender (I put mine in the T-stat housing and lengthened the wire)Bodo wrote:I just picked up a complete engine out of a 99 WJ to stroke for my 96 XJ, for free!

What is the number on the block? And you used accessories for that block or for the 94?yuppiexj wrote:
