Problems in cyl 1

Post by BADASYJ »

A few weeks back I started the jeep n the throttle body was stuck open so I had a couple seconds of WOT at start up. When the jeep was refired I could hear popping sound coming from exhaust. Motor also misses now. I narrowed it down to cyl 1, when injector is unplugged the popping noise stops. Pulled plugs and #1 was black others fine, replaced plug with a known good one and it to was black within 5min of running. The motor will smooth out at idle but stumbles n misses as I go up in rpms I have replaced injectors traced inj wires pulled and reset distributor. New map pulled valve cover and everything seemed to be moving fine. Hoping nothing major, probly pull head tomorrow
Any ideas guys?

Leak down test would be a start.

The popping sound from the exhaust points to either a bent exhaust valve or a broken valve spring on that no.1 exhaust valve. Low compression on that cylinder will confirm that a valve isn't seal properly so you can then pull the head to investigate further.
