Re: Just got my stroker back.. Now the questions
I think i may have just answered my own question... The radiator was off the jeep for over a year and i never bled the air out of the cooling system. All i did was just fill it up with antifreeze/water and go.

Re: Just got my stroker back.. Now the questions
Maybe not the more i think about it the less plausible this sounds as my xj is a 2000 and should bleed the air off. Also the coolant resevoir was filled up after this it was empty at the start.showtime3492 wrote:I think i may have just answered my own question... Re: Just got my stroker back.. Now the questions
What I do on my 86 and 88 is that I remove the coolant temperature sensor at the rear of the head when I have to
refill an empty cooling system. I think I got that tip from the FSM but I don't remember.
Hope that's the only glitch!

Re: Just got my stroker back.. Now the questions
Bad cap? Bad radiator neck? Radiator cap controls the pressure. Either it was faulty allowing the system to over pressure, or the radiator fitting or tangs on the cap were bad. Or it was the wrong cap.

But I know the guy pertty well and know what he can do, I look at it as time for me to do thorough research and time to do a "mock" restoration.

I got a brand new AEM wideban with the UEGO gauge off ebay for 161.99 shipping included.showtime3492 wrote:On monday purchasing my wideband. local shop has one for 190 not sure if im gonna go that route for the instant gratification or order off of ebay.
In box unopended, i really like it, the only problem is that the guage is pretty small, but has both analog and digital readouts.

There are some people who have waited a year before their motors were touched.

Re: Just got my stroker back.. Now the questions
Im a patient guy... but hell no. I would pick a different shop. My jeeps rebuild has been a year long but an engine shouldnt take that long. I was told by one of the better machine shops in pa that to do what i asked my machine shop to do the turn around in 3-4 weeks.ftpiercecracker1 wrote:There are some people who have waited a year before their motors were touched.

Re: Just got my stroker back.. Now the questions
ya i am the same way, maybe a little more so. The guy thats doing mine is kind of a legend, at least in my area, he has to turn away work all the time. Yet his only advertising is by word of mouth. No cards, no signs, no billboards, nothing. Its just him, 1 helper, his machines and thats it. Its pretty much his hobby any more, not a business. I drove by the place a dozen times looking for his shop before i took a chance and drove down a random drive way which turned out to be his. Hes a great guy, the kind of old dude that smiles when you ask lots of questions and takes time to listen and answer. His dyno is one that he designed and patented himself. Oh and he just recently had a state of the art CnC machine custom made for him. My engine is gonna be the first one to be built using it
. He said its precision is set to something like .0001 or close to it.

Re: Just got my stroker back.. Now the questions
Thats a different story. When there is that kind of set up with that kind of person i would wait longer. On my build however there was no communication i had to ask repeatedly for final specs and then still only got guestimates. However it seems to run so well see how it holds up after about 10 thousand miles.. Early prediction is Failure.. no indicators just a hunch.ftpiercecracker1 wrote:ya i am the same way, maybe a little more so.
