Good day all.
Most of my knowledge revolves around the modern HEMI engine, I've built 6 or 8 of them. My current one is a 620+HP 426ci HEMI.
Well, I have a Jeep Comanche truck. I'm ready to build a 4.0 Stroker. I have a 91' complete engine to start with. My goal is ~380HP. Is that reasonable? What is the average HP you can expect to get from a nice 4.0 build?
Thanks
New to Jeep 4.0, but not strokers :)

A reasonable goal for a naturally-aspirated 4.6L stroker is 260hp. If you're looking for 380hp you'll need to bolt a turbo or supercharger with intercooler onto your stroker.

Plus a little nitrous never hurt.
your gonna need to do some serious work to get that kind of power out of a 4.0
4.9 stroker + turbo + nitrous = 380 hp
if built right you might be able to achieve that kind of power without nitrous. But it is going to cost a hole lota $$$

Dang, really?
My goal is to race it, I really did not want to go unnaturally aspirated. Most of the events I race in have classes based on engine. So boosted will but me up 2 classes.
My current 426 costs ~$14,000, so money is not an issue> I'll drop $10,000+ on this 4.0 if I have to.
But now I'm wondering,
if a fully built 4.0 max is ~260HP, and a mild HEMI build is 400HP I may just toss a mild HEMI in there. I really want a bad A$$ 4.0 though. I think its more impressive If I can build this Jeep with a 4.0 that can play with the V8 guys.
So, who on this site has the meanest, baddest 4.0? that's still street-able.

Re: New to Jeep 4.0, but not strokers :)
One of the dudes on here has a killer twin turbo stroker, 4.5 liter i think. And if you got that kind of money to drop, i would go with a custom ground steel crank for max stroke, billet rods, forged EVERYTHING, a hesco aluminum head, and some kind of alcohol/methanol injection system. Without forced induction, its gonna take some kind of engine building wizardry to get 380+ hp. As others will tell you the jeep 4.0 is not a high HP motor, its built for TQ and that is one thing it does VERY well.
I almost for got, but if you want i can try and get you in touch with a guy i know who has built a TON of these motors. His last one was a turbocharged 4.7 that he put about $18,000 into. Said it would boil the tires at 70mph
