4.6L titan
I have about 1000 miles on my titan stroker and it seems to be running good. I went on a 600 mile trip this week and the motor doesnt seem to have the highway pulling power like my old 4.0L did which really makes me mad cuz i bought the stroker for better highway proformance. I made an adj map sensor already and it seems to worked well. im still running the stock header, airbox, and throttle body. Does anyone think if i get aftermarket engine upgrades will it make a difference? Im going to be doing my first oil change tomorrow.
Also im having a ticking problem when the engine is underload. It sounds like an exhaust leak but i cant hear it when i rev it up, it only when im up in the 2000 RPM range in 3rd to 5th gear underload. Also it seems to get louder as the engine warms up. any info on what it could be?
Should i try to adj, my crank position sensor in anyway?
I just hope I didnt make the wrong choice and not put a v8 in!!!!!

That ticking your are hearing ins most likely pinging. Run Premium gas and it should disappear.

I am running premium. s
Could the problem be that my cam sensor is adj. properly with the map sensor or something?

They were tan when i pulled them out to regap my plugs to .045. Think I should try to gap them to the .035 again?

Re: 4.6L titan
Try .040. and what plugs are you using? Using the correct plug and gap is a step in the right direction to cure pinging... but it won't cure it all. Use of premium gas on their engine is guaranteed.

Re: 4.6L titan
Im using champion plugs not sure which ones.
When i built my map sensor i used 20 ga wire, could that also be a issue with the wire ga being to small and making it heat senstive or something? Should i make a more heavy duty one?

Re: 4.6L titan
My dad thinks we are still getting pinging because of the map sensor getting to hot. He said that the heat probley messes with the electronics of the light duty map sensor we built. So to see if he is right I tested the voltage when the engine was kinda cold and got like 5.6 volts, I again drove the jeep and got alot more pinging cuz the motor was hot and producing lot of heat and to my dads theroy started messing with the map sensor voltage, so when I stopped and checked the voltage again and got 5.8 volts. Could this be a reason why im getting the pinging.
My dad and I are going to build a map sensor out of 16 ga something more a little heavy duty and mount the box in the cab of the jeep and make it adj, from the inside.

Re: 4.6L titan
I thing i would start by re torquing the intake/exhaust manifold bolts and nuts. The tic your hearing could be a exhaust leak at the head, and that could also be sucking air in, as well on the intake side of one or more sylinders, causeing that syinder to run leaner then the rest, causing a ping also.
Its worth puting a Wrench on them all just to make sure.
I don't thing using a heaver guage wire, adj map sensor will do much, but having an adj sensor at you finger tips would be a grate aid!
The coment about the the stroker haveing less Highway power then the 4.0L,.... has me worried about the health of your cam and lifters..........
A plain, run of the mill, stroker with a stock cam should make enough power to be notisable..............Maybe you have just goten used to the new found power

Re: 4.6L titan
Ok well tomorrow ill try to see if any bolts are loose. But that makes me think it cant be the problem because wouldnt the ping/tick happen all the time then. The engine sound great when i rev it up in neutral and only pings alot when the motor is has been running for awhile and really heated up. Which makes me think the adj. map sensor is getting messed up from the heat and causing it to go crazy.

Re: 4.6L titan
The Map sensor getting hot wouldn't make a difference unless it was getting incredibly hot. Also, how hot does your engine run? What has Chuck at Titan said?

Re: 4.6L titan
Hi,
The things that can effect performance and cause pre-ignition or pinging are heat, timing, or a lean fuel condition. From the lack of power I'm sure that this will be a tuning issue. I would go back to square one on the tuning and check each componet as if you were installing it for the first time. If your injectors are good 24 pound units that will be adaquate, making sure there is no vacume leaks ( use WD-40 ), do not use exoitic plugs and drop a heat range. Check timing and also try tuning your adjustable map. This engine will develop a lot more power than a stock 4.0 if set up properly. Call if you need any advice. Chuck

Do you think I should try and adjust my crank sensor?

Re: 4.6L titan
Yes I would try that and also check everything again. You will have a big gain in power if you get the tuning close. Thanks, Chuck

Re: 4.6L titan
Well i tighted up all my exhaut and intake manifold bolts and im still getting the ticking noise. I can only find two vacuum lines on the side of the intake manifold and those seem to fine. Im thinking of trying to take a video of the sound maybe that will help. Ill try to get one tonight.
