The XJ Dana 44 was on 87-89 XJs with the tow package. Everytime I find one I can sell it in less than a week. They are in high demand. Ford Explorer 8.8" axles are 1" shorter WMS to WMS than the Cherokee axles. An Explorer from 95 to 00 is useable and has disk brakes. The 01 Explorer axle may work too but I know an 02 explorer has an independent rear. I looked at one yesterday and it is fresh on my mind.
