Post by nk1996 »

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this site, but im hoping you guys can help me. I got a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport. And for the longest time i been wanting to turn my stock 4.0 into a stroker. So i pulled the engine and trannsmission, im sending my tranny off to get rebuilt but i want advice on how to get this ball rolling. I guess ill just leave it at that let me know what i should do.

Thanks everyone!

What's your budget?
Do you want to build the engine yourself or do you want a ready-built stroker long block?
Does your Jeep have any existing performance mods?
What are your goals for the stroker build?

You might want to browse around my sites to get an idea.

Budget wise i was thinking $2000 to $2500 possiably, and yes i want to build it my self. No, my jeep is pretty much bone stock execpt for a 3" lift and sitting on 33's. and my goals are for a good realiable engine, on and off road. With that said any suggestions?

Sounds like the modified "poor man's" stroker recipe is the one for you. Start looking around for a 258 crank to get the ball rolling, and then you can start drawing up a shopping list of parts to order from Summit Racing.

Thank you very much! i got my engine all torn apart down to bare block. And Saturday I am going to pick up a 4.2 engine that i bought for 80 dollars and all that's wrong with that engine is a blown head-gasket. I was curious tho if that head is good shape, can i just just put it on the engine i am building up? Because my 4.0 head needs rebuilt, and there is a possibility it is warped.

The 4.2 head is only good enough to use as a big, heavy paperweight 'cause its airflow is much worse than that of the 4.0 head. The best thing you can do with it is sell it for scrap.
