I have a Split Second FCT1-019B, and now I am trying to install it.
My laptop have a Windows Vista and I am not able to install the drivers (disc USB to RS232), I have an error with the drivers (code 31). (I installed the drivers several times).
I tried to install it with a friend's laptop (Windows XP) and the drivers are OK, but then the PC is running extremly slow with the R4 Sofware. (I installed the drivers three times).
I need help.

I had no problems installing the R4 on two W7 machines.

I think I have a problem with drivers.
Can I buy any usb-to-RS232 with its drivers and install it on my Split Second?

Are you sure the USB to serial drivers aren't the ones that are having problems installing? Disconnect the Split Second, then plug in the USB -serial converter. Also, some of those USB to serial converters may not play well with the Split Second. I learned that when I installed my wideband. The one I had purchased didn't work well with the wideband.

Dump Vista and get Windows 7. Vista is a nightmare of problems, that's why Windows 7 was made.
Also, don't try installing any software with the devices connected. That just creates problems. You may also want to check with the FTC and see what USB's it's compatible with (1.0, 2.0, 3.0 etc.). It probably wouldn't matter if you had W7, but it probably does matter since you have Vista and you need to be a computer programmer to effectively troubleshoot every little kink it throws at you.
