Rings not properly seated, worn valve stem oil seals, worn valve guides. Take your pick. I'd say it's most likely to be the rings.

If your losing oil (the question is how much) then its probably rings just as Cheromaniac stated. A leak down test will confirm.

Just because an engine is new doesnt mean its going to be good. Especially with the track record titan has.

If the CCV system was at fault you would probably see the oil coming out of the intake manifold/air filter.

Easy check for valve guides and or seals.
Allow to sit for up to 20 minutes.
If seals or guides are leaking oil, it will leak down the stem to the back of the intake valves.
When you start it that oil gets sucked in with the gas and burned as a slug of oil mixed with gas.
Start normally and watch for puff or cloud of smoke, that will be the oil burning off, only visible for a few seconds.
Can also be seen under heavy accel after down shift.
Down shift causes heavy vacume in engine sucking more than normal oil into loose guides and seals
Best if you have someone else start it while you watch the tail pipe.
Doesnt sound likely with clean plugs, but very easy test.
Gas analizer test will tell you if you are burning oil with very high HC.$30 test at smog shop.

any engine will use "some" oil in the first 5000 (or so) miles since rebuild. As the rings seat (oil past the rings, and blowby puts oil vapor in the PCV)... it will use "some" oil.

Once you get some good high load runs in, a bunch of miles, and a few oil changes... it should stop using any real amount of oil. Thing is.. you won't see "blue" smoke, because the highest oil consumption will be when you are at steady state/high vacuum (hiway driving, decel to stop lights... etc)...all times when there is enough airflow that any blue smoke would be diluted to nothing.

Moly rings take longer to "break in", especially on improperly prepared cylinder bores. I like cast

uh... that is backwards....

Moly Rings usually breakin by the time you finish breaking in the cam. The only real reason to use cast rings is if your doing a rebuild with imperfect bores IMO.

OP.. you should still do a compression test.

ive dona a comp. test on all 6 and all but #4(179lbs)have 185lbs or a little over. mabey this : put the motor in in a weekend. put the oilpump driver aka cps in just like it came out of the 4.0 i took out. had no way of setting the timing exactly on so i made an appt. with my local jeep dealership to put the thing in synk. broke the cam in and had to daive it to work for over a week before the dealership could get me in.stupit i know, but ovly ride i have at the moment. so, thet put it in synk and it runs great. think within that time of driving it out of synk that mabey carbon deposits built up somewhat and could be causing my prob.going to let the engine injest a bottle of seafoem through the break booster line. thanks and ill let u know if that helps. sure cant hurt.

check this out. i thought that after the first 500 miles that it would be ok to use syn.oil. WRONG!!!! chuck at titan engines straitened me out on that. thank goodness. he was pretty cool on helping me track down what was causing the oil problem. sence then i've put S E A 10W30 non syn back into the crankcase, been keeping a close eye on the levels, and i couldnt belive the diffrence it made! it hasent went through hardley any sence. chuck even made a point to call me yesterday to see how or if that got me and my 4.6 back on track. really wished i had knew that in the first place. couple of oil changes and ill probaly go to syn. thanks guys. youg suggestions did help me work through MY MISTAKES.

ok.put non syn oil back in it,drove alot of miles and so far all cyls. are good with no signs of oil except #3 cyl. but it is using less and less every time i drive it. prob. wont be long. still cant belive syn.oil wouldnt let things seal like they should! lession learned on that one. still shouldnt have taken so many miles to get this engine broke in.no more TITAN ENGINES for me! got a ho4.0 to build a 4.7 MYSELF for a xj rokbugy. i'll be asking ya'll LOTS of questions to get the project along. ok. southwest virginia and southeast kentucky (where i live and wheel) is an awsome proving ground. thanks ya'll
