Correct, any AMC or Jeep and even International's have them too, you're going to find10+ 258's for every 232!
You can get more power out of ANY engine!!!

I assume that any engine by AMC that is a 232 between the years of 72 and 79 (I have an AW4) is compatible? Not just the CJ-5?

Oh crap...search my posts over the last few months..theres a few shops offering them onine...232 crank, balanced & bearings for about 150 shipped to your door.
And if you pay extra you can get specific brand bearings. I ended up with Kings. I got my crank from soewhere online just can't think of the name..it was 10/10 and spot on with the balancing. It looked like it had been shaved down a little...maybe to cut some weight? so I had the machine shop go back through and do a mild knife edge job on my crank. It weighed 54.2lbs when I got it according to a digital bathroom scale. After I had it shaved down it was at 49.9lbs. So it got 4lbs lighter which will help it rev a little more which is what I wanted with my 5speed. also the knife edge will cut through the oil vs push it...in theory that is.
I didn't weigh my stock crank but Dino and others have them posted around 55lbs.. anyone have a true weight on a 232 crank? Mine was deffinetly shaved slightly and came in at 54.2lbs..so I'd expect it around 56lbs or so? which would be the same as a 4.0L crank.

I'm guessing so..mine was just shy of that so I'm sure its the same as the 4.0

Hello, everyone. I'm new to this forum and to strokers. I have a 2001 TJ with a 4.0 and am looking to replace my motor. It has some serious issues since the head cracked and coolant leaked into the oil. This milder "Mini-Stroker" is very appealing to me since it makes good power and runs on 87 octane gasoline. I called Motor Works in Spokane yesterday and they're going to let me know if they can build one for me and, if so, how much it will cost.Cheromaniac wrote: I decided that my milder mini-stroker was too close to the wilder one so I've revamped it into a configuration that'll run on 87 octane fuel. 241hp @ 5000rpm, 294lbft @ 3000rpm
Has anyone on this forum used this engine? Is there anything my builder or mechanic should know about this engine? I believe my PCM needs to be tuned with a MAP adjuster, right? What about the fuel/air ratio? Any tips on this motor?

There's nothing fancy about this engine. Indeed the only parts that are different from stock are the 232 crank, Silvolite 2229 pistons, and the CompCams 68-115-4 camshaft.Border Dave wrote:Is there anything my builder or mechanic should know about this engine? If you select the correct size injectors (Accel 24lb'ers in your case), your PCM might not need any adjustment at all.
Since you need a replacement head, either look for a junkyard head from an '03+ TJ (with TUPY stamped on the top indicating that it's a reinforced casting) or buy a similarly reinforced head from Alabama Cylinder Heads.

It's a 0331 head. Low lift flow numbers are lower and high lift flow numbers are slightly higher than on the 7120 head. The end result is that the 0331 head makes a little less power but has better emissions because the smaller exhaust ports allow the cats to warm up faster.Jeepinscott wrote:I've never used the TUPY head. So it seems that the nose on my 238 crank is 3/4" longer than a factory 4.0 crank. Do they make a spacer I can install to correct the difference for my harmonic balancer?

The nose will be 1cm longer so just cut the rear 1cm portion off an old 4.0 harmonic balancer and use that as a spacer.

Wow...didn't even realize the 232 had a use. Cripes in my area you cant move without tripping over one of those! They came around here in all sorts of IH pickups and ag equipment.

Whats the long term life of these strokers. I have heard that they blow every 20k. But that doesnt sound right. Any thoughts
