trans problems

my brother has a 95 cherokee, and it wont shift after the first time through the gears. if you shift it manually it works but does not go into lockup. i have swapped the tps and trans control and nothing changed. does anyone have any ideas?

Near the trans dipstick tube are two connectors, rather squarish looking. They are responsible for transfering the info from the TCU, VSS, NSS and TPS. Unplug them, spray them out with electronics cleaner, visually inspect them, apply some dielectric grease and reconnect then. Road test the vehicle.
