oil filter adapter and strokers
So I took out my oil filter adapter before I sent my engine to the machine shop to get stroked:D
Because of that, I will have to run a smaller filter.
Has anyone done this? Is it stupid or should it work?

Re: oil filter adapter and strokers
What makes you say youll have to run a smaller filter? will you be changing the adapter?

Re: oil filter adapter and strokers
eliminating it all together. Oil filter directly on the block. (eliminates 3 leak points)

Re: oil filter adapter and strokers
You should be just fine. Leave that adapter off and get a K&N filter.

Re: oil filter adapter and strokers
not to be picky, but doesn't it just eliminate 2 leak points, going from 3 by my count to 1? Unless you count the internal oring aroung the "bolt" in the center of the adapter housing that is... Or am I missing something?

Re: oil filter adapter and strokers
There's very little clearance for engine movement in an XJ when you remove the oil filter adapter and install the small filter directly on the block. Quite easy to have the oil filter collide with the motor mount causing catastrophic oil loss when the filter is punctured..

Re: oil filter adapter and strokers
x2. AFAIK all XJs had the 90* adapter. ZJs as well. Not enough clearance for a straight attachment. But the 90* isn't all that bad as it allows you to run a larger filter.

Re: oil filter adapter and strokers
I truly believe that if the factory could have saved the money they had to spend on each and every oil filter adapter installed on a 4.0 in an XJ or MJ, they would have not gone to the trouble of having one. There are people on some of the other forums who went to great lengths to eliminate the OFA only to find that if their motor mounts were the least bit worn the filter would get punctured or dented in off-road conditions.
