Distributor drive gear
Has anyone purchased a new one lately?, I'm in need of a new one for my OBD II distributor and they seem to have all evaporated off of the face of the planet!, Jeep/Chrysler seems to have deemed the 4.0 OBSOLETE!??, call to the local dealer just want's to make me throw the phone out into the shop!, NAPA said they have one in South Carolina?, for $48 + $8 shipping!

Hesco has them. Iron or bronze, your choice.

I bought one from 1AAuto. One of the few places I could find it either without buying the whole distributor

Re: Distributor drive gear
I must have poor search skills on the computer??, I fail completely to find the gear at 1A Auto and the only one I see at HESCO is the POS bronze one that will fail in about a week.
I may have found one at QUADRATEC if CROWN confirms the dimensions of the gear?

Re: Distributor drive gear
funny on the bronze comment. Hesco must've had enough failures to make it worth while to not have to pull out the cams so they made the bronze dizzy gear the sacrifice. I can imagine that they don't last too long.

Re: Distributor drive gear
Bronze gears are for STEEL BILLET roller cams, not cast iron cams, I've seen MANNY!!! of them ground up on iron cams in SHORT order!

Mine would last about 2,500 miles. After eating two them I got an iron one from Bennie. So far so good.SilverXJ wrote:IIRC they last about 10,000 miles on our engines.

Re: Distributor drive gear
I ordered one from Quadratec, sounds like they have them shipped from Crown?, hope they have it in stock, I'm about ready to pull my hair out!
and that aint easy with a flat top!
The OE one lasted about 147,000, although I haven't torn the engine down yet I don't wonder if it's the Melling oil pump to block issue Silver posted about here a little while ago???, my new engine does indeed have the issue! and it will be corrected before the pump is bolted down!
I should probably start a thread about my stroker in the build section, got enough parts to build the short block now, need to finish balancing the rods and pistons, then assemble and then the head, need to add up the $$ and see if I came close to my $1500 goal?
