just got the call from the machine shop .
clean block
mag block
bore/hone .020
check line bore
recon rods/new bolts
assle. pistons/rods
freeze plugs
cam bearings
grind crank 10/10
balance all
800 and change labor
parts 200 and change .
came as recommendation , seem high at all? :lol:

My total machine work was $1173 Check my build thread for more info.

But shawnxj is right depends on the area and what your having done.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!

well that makes me feel better . you paid similar to me . boston area is expensive .

$800 is a reasonable price for the labor imo. I paid $420 for the block work and $225 for the head work and I didn't get the rods recon'd(bought them already shot-peened) w/ bolts, didn't get a crank ground, and didn't get a balance job.

I spent $780 for block machine work, con rod recon,3 angle valve job, freeze plugs,durabond cam bearings, and new stock valve springs. No crank work I bought the crank already turned. Here in michigan we have machine shops everywhere.
