Here are a few pics of the stainless steel valves, spring locators and the windage screen.

Its up and running. Everything is fine so far, but that is how it always is in the beginning. We shall see.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
I have 99 miles on her as of 30 minutes ago. Running fine as usual. Oil pressure is holding. I missed driving her. As usual a few bugs.
1) Something is hitting the transmission tunnel at idle causing a knocking sound. I must have a sensor plug or something out of place.
2) There is a sound like valve lash on one valve & only when cold.. could be associated with bug #1 as well. Will most likely investigate tomorrow. Could be an exhaust leak at the header as well. I'll re-torque the bolts tomorrow.
3) Rough idle when cold. Its always been there, but I probably won't fool around it until I know the bearings are good
4) Of course the exhaust leak. I ordered a new cat because it sounds like the majority of the sound is coming from under the cat's heat shield. I could just gut it or straight pipe it but I won't do that.
After a few debugging sessions my multigauge works. The stock oil pressure gauge is pretty close to the actual oil pressure. Oil temp works and I will wire in the transmission temp sensor tomorrow. Watching the oil temp, its interesting how long it takes the oil temp to come up to 140*. Coolant temp has been at 210* for about 7-10 minutes before the oil temp hits 140*. The lowest the oil temp sensor is set to display is 140*, will do some experimenting to see if I can get it to read lower correctly.
I haven't done anything since last weekend aside from check the oil and top off the coolant so I will be busy tomorrow. I'm also going to remove the WJ booster & master cylinder I installed since the pedal bottoms out on a panic stop.
I usually check the bearings at 200 miles, but I may watch the oil pressure and see if it drops below 40psi before I check.

What's your oil pressure at idle, when hot?
That tranny knockin sound, is it the same as your previous knock?

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
Its currently 40 PSI hot.
No, that knock sound, #1, is just something lose on the outside, back of the engine. Its not to be confused with that knock heard from the bell housing, which I haven't heard yet.

40 PSI at idle hot??? That's very high... I got 13-15 psi from the beginning (after the missing oil galley plug).

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
Its with the HV pump though. And the bearings are new.
I checked a few things today. That lifter tick at cold (#2) could have been an exhaust leak at the header as I got quite a bit of movement out of the bolts. I didn't find anything knocking the fire wall but I did find the engine mount through bolts a bit lose. They are Brown Dog mounts and you don't torque down the through bolt, just tight enough to make the washer on the through bolt stop turning by hand. And it looked like a support bracket for my intake was hitting the alarm speaker, so that could be a source of the sound too.
Oil pressure remained at 39-40psi after a long drive and oil temp was 180* or so with ambient temp 71* and engine temp 208*.

I hope you have better luck with the HV oil pump than I had; 2-roll pins, 1-dist gear, and 1-cam.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
I have some direct oiling to the distributor gear. I know about the possibility of the distributor/cam gear failing.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
Not to cause a debate, but my stroker had 18,000 miles on it (before my Jeep got totaled) and I had no problems with the HV pump.YJason wrote:I hope you have better luck with the HV oil pump than I had; 2-roll pins, 1-dist gear, and 1-cam.
