fuel pump making loud noise

Post by superjeep »

hi everyone,i am having this problem with my jeep,i have a 91 cherokee with a 4.5 engine i just finish it like a week ago it is running fine after your help  but now my fuel pump is making this loud noise and sometimes i will even lose fuel pressure,i did change the fuel pump, gas tank and fuel filter, this is the tird time a have to take the fuel pump out in a week, the first time that i took it out i saw the pump wasnt in the right position it looks like it moved so i fix that, the second time i was testing my suspencion trying to articulate it as much as i can and the noise start againg so i took the pump out and i used some clamps to try to fix the vabriation and it worked for like a week, now today i was driving around downtown st, petersburg fl,this is where i live and is doing the same noise,i was thinking to go with a fuel cell and an external fuel pump but not sure, what do guys think !!!!! what else can do !!!!!!!!!!!

Can you describe the noise more? What does it sound like? Does it always do it, or only under certain conditions? You said before the pump looked like it moved, how much did it move and how? Did it rotate? I have not had a Jeep fuel pump out; but normally the pump will have ears that interlock with the tank and unless something is broken it should not move. You said you changed the pump out; did the original one make the noise? Where did you get the new one from? What was the reason for changing it? Finally, what is your fuel pressure - before noise - during noise - when you lose pressure? Also, is the loss of pressure random, or can it be tied to some other event / action?

the noise is a vabriation and when it moved that was inside the tank, like the fuel pump it self moved inside the hole unit you know it has 2 rubbers rings 1 on top and 1 on the botton of the unit and like i said i did use some clamps to prevent it to move, it looked like it worked but just for a period of time(3 days) the pump was from napa and costed me $110 the fuel pressure of it was 45 i dont know now i havent test it and the reason of me changing that was because when i got my cherokee the old pump was making the same noise but with out the loss of power :brickwall: even the fuel tank is new the old one was rusty in the inside!!!! is it any in line or out side the tank fuel pump that i can use??? thanks in advance for your help :rockout:

e8248 napa, carquest, etc. will supply more than enough pressure and volume . Comes with rubber mounts as well.
