New forged rods w/ arp bolts..what torque?

Post by TheZaZ »

Ive searched my butt off. I cant seem to find what torque I need to tighten the arp rods bolts to. I have new forged rods from RPMMAXX.com

They came installed with the arp 8740 bolts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They Came from 505 performance so I dont have any info. They look exactly like the MAXX-PRO Billet I Beam Rods on their site but I cant find any info anywhere. (Their name was on the side of the rod, thats how I knew it came from them)

the only 8740 alloy cap screw rod bolt shown in the ARP cat. are 7/16" with a torque rating of 75 ft lbs. I would check with 505 perf. to make sure, 75 Ft lbs sounds high to me.

?????????????
Proper rod bolt torque cannot be determined by bearing clearance !!

Arp said to go with who made the rods...and he said the arp bolts in my rod were made specifically for rpm so they are the ones to go with.

Yep, the torque spec is a generalization of the stretch, big $$$$ engine builders use a dial indicator stretch gauge when tightening the rod bolts.
The MILODON rod bolts in my 360 torque at 40ftlbs with molly lube, I'm surprised that ARP didn't give a more straight answer than that!!??
