Mud racing with a stroker?

How long are your tracks? Asking because I run 35" tires in a 200' sand drag with 308's, starting in 2nd gear(powering the purple wire in trans for #1 solenoid) Still beat alot of guys with 500 h.p. + v-8's because they make the common mistake of running too low a ratio. You should NEVER lose to an S-10 , even with a non- stroker. Use your torque!

150ft is are average pits, interesting.... If I power the purple wire then I'll start out in second gear? We are hitting the limiter in first before she barely gets moving and I believe that is hurting her by shifting too many times in the pits. Will the aw4 still shift to 3rd or will it hold second? With the red clay mud (15in or less) it does pull down the motor alot. I've just picked up a set of taurus e-fans and It's at the exhaust shop getting the crimps out and a flowmaster installed. I also plan on boring the T-body out to 63mm, and building a cold air intake. Anything else you guy's can think of that will give me a couple HSP?

get rid of everything off the front of the engine exept the alt, and the power steering. then you can move the alt up a little so that it stays out of the mud a little better. then just un two elec fans. wont make any more power just free some up and lose some more weight.

In the stock 6cyl class, the jeeps leaving in 2nd gear always win over the ones leaving in 1st gear. In a 4.7 sec. run, you can imagine how much time and speed are lost waiting for the dee da dee da dee before it shifts.( my truck does 200' in 4.0 sec. flat). 1st gear is way too low anyway. But it gives u a false impression of going faster because of the rooster tails produced when it FINALLY does shift into 2nd. You can still use your trans controller if you simply tee-in a power wire, with a toggle switch. By adding power(12 v with a toggle switch) to the purple wire going to your trans controller you can leave the line in 2nd gear with the shifter in either the 1st -2nd pos. or the 3rd- od pos. If you leave in the 1st- 2nd pos.,(with the toggle switch on) you can shift into 3rd by shifting manually to 3rd -od . If you leave in the 3rd- od pos.( with the toggle switch on) you can shift into 3rd by turning off the toggle switch. I eliminated the controller on mine, and geared up a paddle shifter on the wheel using a sequential mechanical switch.( heater fan control switch out of a 90 lumina)

I second the flat top pistons. I would also "0" deck the block. But remember you will run a little hotter. You might not pull enough air with the electric fans if you are sitting in staging for a bit. Also wrap your exhust if it runs under your starter. You'll cook the starter and it will fail just as your starting up to head for the line, trust me it sucks.
Should be a fast truck man. Keep those tires aired up to 45 psi also.

When you keep the tires aired up they will cut through the mud better. Airing down will give you more flotation then wanted. Gotta get to the bottom where the hard stuff is.
By the way do you plan on weighing your jeep? If so I'd be intrested to know what that XJ weighs compared to a striped out wrangler.

Yes I'm gonna weigh it when I get it 100% done, but being in the stock class I wasn't able to take out everything. It will still have interior trim and half a rear seat (folded down). They take stock very seriously around here... It's finally home from the exhaust shop and getting a new windshield, Can't wait to tear back into it. I've been working on the throttle body and getting it smoothed up, now to build a cold air system.

I bought Taurus fans but were to tall so I went with daul factory 97+xj fans, finished the cold air intake and cleaning up the throttle body. Here's a pic of it done, sure has been alot of work but I hope "worth it".

I don't think the tech guy's are gonna leave me alone if I put a on/off switch on the wheel (everyone will cry and think I'm cheating expecially if were fast) but I'd really like for her to keep her hands on the wheel. Is there any reason I can't use a old style floor mounted dimmer switch to turn the purple wire power on and off? I'll use a small LED light to keep track of if it's on or off.

Go to the JY and buy another rear windshield wiper switch and install it in one of the blank locations to the right of the wheel.

If this is a race only Jeep, why not use the hi-low beam switch on the column? It is easy to tie into, keeps her hands on the wheel, and no-one will suspect a thing... High beams=high gear...

It is also a natural movement without having to look for or get accustomed to a new switch location.

We had are clubs yearly "offroad challenge" this weekend and Missy finished 3rd, one point behind second... I finally finished all the little details and pulled it out of the garage 2 hrs before the event for it's maiden run. She won the hillclimb, and articulation section, 2nd in the mud bog (deep hole), but the most suprising was she finished 3rd on the RTI ramp behind 2 long arm TJ's. Not bad for a 3in RC lift on stock arms.....She knocked a hole in the gas tank in the log section and I didn't leave enough room for the second electric fan and the water pump mangled it but that's not bad all things considered. Were making a video of the event and I'll post when it's done.
