Milling Pistons ?

Milling Pistons ?
Our local machine shop owner has suggest to mill a little off of the flat top part of the piston versus milling out the dish. This would lower the compression but what would this do to the quench ? Is this a good idea or not?

It would increase the quench. If you want to go that route, deck the block less. If you want to keep quench but reduce compression, enlarge the piston dish or the combustion chamber.
I wouldn't mill a piston unless there was a clearance issue.

I agree!, I would NEVER! mill a piston to reduce the quench, I don't nesasarily care for milling out the dishes, but increasing the qench to reduce compression is the WRONG thing to do.SilverXJ wrote:I wouldn't mill a piston unless there was a clearance issue.
