Naw, we measure octane differently in the US compared to any other country. 98 for them is 91/93 in the US.

In Europe, for example, the octane is higher (the price too! :brickwall: ) because the cars for this market have a hight CR , about 10 to 1 or more.

In Europe (and here in the UAE) they use the RON octane rating which is 4 points higher than the R+M/2 octane rating used in the US. Therefore:

91 RON = 87 US octane = E-Plus here in the UAE (my "winter" fuel)
95 RON = 91 US octane = Special here in the UAE (my "summer" fuel)
98 RON = 94 US octane = Super here in the UAE

Most modern high compression engines (10+:1 CR) have knock sensor control of ignition timing advance so that allows them to run on lower octane fuel without pinging but with a slight reduction in performance compared to running on Super.
