Sputters/stalls/backfires at 2k...

Post by sudo chop »

After 3 days of installing the stroker (alone) I started it up today, I am very pleased with how well it is idling. When I went to start the cam break in, however, it didn't want to go any higher than 2000 rpm, whether I tried to ease it up there or punch it up there, it wouldn't really go. It king of backfired and then stalled sort up while it was hanging around 2k or so. I tried to make a video:

I couldn't make it embed, so here is the URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SVzTfrBucg

Off the top of my head I am thinking it could be from a couple of things. 1) Injectors are too big. 2) I have no exhaust and no O2 hooked up.\

Or maybe my engine is all crap idk.

Some input please!

EDIT: It even does it with the smallest amount of throttle. I took it for a lap around the parking lot pretty much just idling, but each time I would hold it at even a little throttle it would sort of stall. I am going to try my stock injectors out tomorrow and see what they do.

if no o2 is hooked up then your computer has no idea how much fuel to put in and that will cause the backfiring and stalling

Right, well it still has a base map to go off of, doesn't no O2 mean it just can't learn fuel trim? After I put the stock injectors in, I may just get a 3" downpipe and bolt it to the header with some O2 bungs in it.

it should at the very least trigger a check engine light and possibly go into limp mode, dumping in loads of fuel. that could maybe cause what youre seeing. id wait until its all together to try and get it going. at least electronics and sensors anyway
