New source for Rods

Post by metalman »

From what I gathered the eagle rods are pretty well all gone, eagle themselves said they hadn't been made in 5 years, which makes me wonder how its possible some companies are still claiming to be building engines with them??? Anyways...

I just got delivery today on some H beam rods from 505. They use a floating .912 wrist pin (ford size), ARP bolts, jeep rod bearings, 6.150 length. I'll get them weighed out soon and try to get up some picks, they look pretty legit.

I get we'll find out once the motors together and I start hitting the squeeze at 2,000 rpm!!!!

anyways, good company to deal with, GREAT PRICE too. I asked them about getting the I beam rods machined for a floating pin, they said they'd just upgrade me to the H beams for about the same price. Honestly, it was worth it just to not have to pay or fuss with pressing in wrist pins anymore.

Tomorrow I pick up the block, and this week I'll be calling bulltear to get my pistons, they even said no extra charge on cutting them for the 912 wrist pin, they just don't supply the 912 pin with the piston. Feels nice to be finally building a motor again, even if this is supposed to be more of the wifes project, I've missed wrenching the last few years.

I'm pretty sure that those rods from 505 are EAGLES. They bought up a lot of inventory around the country.

from talking with the owner of 505, he said they are comparable to the eagles, but that they are new manufacture. Besdies, they are bushed on the small end to a smaller size than the eagles were, so they couldn't even be machine out of an eagle rod.

Eagle said they quit producing them "at least 5 years ago", so I really doubt there is this magic mountain of eagle rods hiding anyplace that everyone claims to be pulling them from.

I'm sitting on a set of Eagle 6150s--figured somewhere down the road I could put em to good use.

Unless you have several more sets sitting around as well that your interested in selling, it doesn't do much good to the rest of the forum. But hey, I'm happy for you. I'm sure the eagle rods still exist somewhere, but I'm also pretty sure there aren't retail options available for finding them either.

I just figured I would post this up to let people know they were available, because it took a bit of looking for me to find an aftermarket rod option, they are a pretty good deal, and appear to be of good quality.

I don't mean to be rude, but there seems to be a near obsession with "EAGLE" rods. is eagle an abbreviation for something else I don't know about, or are people just convinced that the manufacturer Eagle makes the greatest rods ever, because honestly although I don't think they have a bad reputation in other circles, eagle rods aren't considered the gold standard by anyone outside the jeep world to my knowledge.

Not to cast any aspersions but.
I ordered my pistons from Bulltear on 2/24/10 prepaid
I have yet to see anything, 10+ months later. Nothing special .030 over.
I was hoping to wheel my stroker 3 mos. ago.
They have said they are having problems with the forging people.
Get a hard drop dead date.
I am going to give them a little more time, then I give up.
Will ask for money back.
I hate doing this, but I WANT MY PISTONS!

Besides 505's performance other rod offerings the Eagle rods are the only aftermarket rod. I haven't seen 505's other rods in person, and I have only seen one other company that sells rods other than Eagle. And I don't think anyone had placed an order through them. And 505's other rods just came to market about a year ago. That is why the Eagle rods and held so highly in the Jeep circle.

I would like to see a pic of the 505 rod. Would not mind trying a set of them on my next motor.

I would also like the picture, Plus i would like to see a bore gauge ran inside the big end, To see how well rounded the hole is. I would also like to have the length of all the rods measured to see if they are all the same. This was the problem i had with stock stuff. had to go thru several rods before i found all the same length. Then had to true both ends.

@Jeepinscott, jbxx

I am sorry to hear that. I contacted them when I was coming off of my deployment Aug 2009, and they said they would be ready to ship in December. They were really nice and courteous, and seemed squared away. Needless to say I paid a little more and grabbed a set from summit for 600, because I had been planning this for a year and couldn't wait :)
