Singh Grooves In Cylinder Head

Post by ibanezjeepguy »

wondering if anyone here has ever experimented with such "grooves" in their I6 cylinder head.
I am planning on incorporating this concept into my upcoming build as a way to raise the CR while reducing the tendency to knock on low octane fuel.

The man, not the myth...

A very good read at pop-sci...

google search "singh groove" to find multiple images

This Singh groove idea is very interesting to me and have never heard of it. I am curious if anyone has experience with it.

idk, sure there could be something to it, but I'm a bit of a skeptic. I need to see some irrefutable evidence, and it shouldn't be that hard for this guy to provide some if it works that well.

After reading this guys' project, I am not at all impressed. And this is one of the examples this guy has listed as 'testing results' for his idea, cmon.

that guy seems like a clown. he did all that expensive machine work just to put it on his old crappy block.
and he cut up perfectly good valves in intake manifold!!!!!!! worst idea ever

Looks like somebody's criminally insane ex-wife did the head polishing and went for revenge.
"take that you a-----e, but she stops short of knicking the valve seat every time

So if I slip and ruin my porting job, say its a singh groove, and call it a day?

This guy must be working in the cash for clunkers psyops division... Slice you combustion chambers, and mill your head to 17:1 compression...it runs good!

Try turning on your AC when your junk idles at 400 rpm. FAIL.

This is the most scientifically performed and objective test I have found. And the results are not very good. Doesn't seem to me to be worth the trouble.

the exhaust gas temp chart alone should show you that something bigger is at play here.
obviously an engine of a given displacement and head-flow rate is only going to produce x-amount of power over an RPM range despite a groove being cut.

the groove is for efficiency, not power, or HP .

I also like how no tuning was attempted to take advantage of any economy gains you might see with the grooves, they ran everything the same every time, of course there aren't going to be deviation in results.

Would be like timing me doing a 100 yard sprint with 2 different shoes with different tread design to grip the ground better

They should tested against lower octane fuels as well as altered ignition timing.
Hell even the bozos on TV testing the E3 spark plugs ran varying octane fuels without this ghetto "Klotz HiTRATE"
If anything that product is just as much gimmick as the groove "claims" to be in itself.

One more time, the grooving is supposed to be in the quench area, NOT anything else like valves or intake.
