CAM bolt washer

Post by Mopud »

Hi Guys,

I've been quiet for a while, i waited 4 weeks to get hold of the cam bolt pin and spring package from the US. It really killed my engine building mojo. I ordered the washer J3173284 as well but it failed to appear with my order so i'm going to have to place in another order to get it (attempting to organize same week delivery from the usa to aus).

Do i absolutely need this washer? Is there any alternative? I actually thought I had one here i could use as it came off another 4.2 but it was used with the bolt which simply locates on timing cover dimple (doesn't have the pin and spring set up). This washer it appears to be too thick to work with the bolt, pin and spring set up as it doesn't leave enough clearance in the timing cover. I assume it would have to be high tensile?

Any help you can provide will be gratefully received.

Regards,

actually i was wondering too about this (this may be a half hijack, im sorry mopud). i know that you should always be using new fasteners in your engine, or build altogether if the bolts are aged, but would it be ok to reuse your cam bolt and washer if its the kind that has the pin and spring in it (for earlier 4.0s)?

It is always recommended you replace the bolt pin and spring when you rebuild. I imagine the washer would be reusable

Yes easy to get from stealership (if in usa or canada). I bought mine from morris 4x4, $6.99usd. Can't find the washer though, if anyone can please give me specs on this it'd be immensely appreciated, getting incredibly desperate.
