Throttle Body options...

Ok after searching the forums and reading a ton of posts I am going to have to ask this question. What are the options for DIY throttle bodies. I have seen people talk about 68mm from a Dakota 4.7L, I read about a Viper throttle body (as in the dodge car or is that the name of it) and then there is the Dino(tm) Mustang trick. I see how to make the Mustang tb work, but can't find how to adapt a Dakota or Viper tb to our beloved 4.0 (4.8 in my case) so I am still running the stock one until I can figure this all our and make a choice. Anyone have a write up on what needs to be modded to make them fit? Or at least want to share pics so I can see what needs to be done?

I had my stock TB bored out to 62mm
I haven't had the opportunity to swap it to a stocker, but I think that with the bigger TB, the snappier the throttle. So with my particular build, it's almost too touch, it really jumps off idle, which is nice, but my fiance can't drive it too well and I'd like something a little tamer. This is just my opinion. I do like the power and response no matter what though it's nice.

Used to run the 72mm off the chevy central port injected v-8 or v-6( simple spacer plate required) Untill I made my own intake with 3x 52mm tbs off 3.5l intrepid

That sounds interesting, as we don't see very many custom intakes for these engines. Do you have any pictures you could share?

Mine did have a similar reaction but it was the throttle plate sticking in the bore, I turned the closed position stop screw in to open the throttle plate some and it went away and drive just like the stock throttle body.

Is the difference from a stock throttle body noticeable? I.e. Is it worth the trouble?

Stick with a 62mm TB. It's all you need on a mild 4.6 stroker. My modified Mustang 65mm TB is overkill but I love the very sharp throttle response.

I am building a 4.5 with stock cam is 62mm where I want to be?

I ran my 63mm TB on my stock engine and it did fine. It does fine on my stroker as well. I got it from www.strokedjeep.com

I had an Edge Performance 62mm TB on my 4.7 stroker during 2 months. It was great on the road, very responsive. But it was way too touchy in the dirt, it was impossible to keep constant (low) speed or to crawl up a hill without the jeep jerking forward on/off. So I removed it and sold it.
Now a year later I want to try a Hesco 62mm TB in combination with a ported manifold and 24 lb/s injectors (instead of the stock 19 lb/s) and see if the offroad drivability is better. (power will be better for sure).

Not really burning money as I bought these parts secondhand.

My 4.6 something started with 60 mm, worked good. Went to 62mm and low end torque increased (felt unstoppable) freeway speed came easier.
Went to the ford 65mm and freeway still great, but low end torque seemed to drop off some.
Heard it has to do with velocity as opposed to volume.
At some point i will go back to 62mm, works really well for my setup..
