4.7L Stroker noise on first startup
I just finished installing my first Stroker motor in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler. On the first startup, there was a terrible noise coming from the front of the engine. It seems to be coming from around the timing cover. I am afraid to let it run very long, because it sounds so bad. I purchased the engine from Titan, so I called them about the noise and they said that I needed to install a cam button to keep the cam from walking. They are supposed to be sending one to me. In the meantime, has anyone else experienced this problem?

I HAVENT HAD THAT PROBLEM BUT, WOULDNT YOU THINK THAT TITAN WOULD SEND YOU THE CAM BUTTON IN THE FIRST PLACE? THERE ENGINES ARE SUPPOSED BE DROP IN REPLACEMENTS RIGHT?

Never mind sending it. Titan should have installed the cam button in the first place but I guess Titan must be building most of their engines on a Friday afternoon.92tank wrote:WOULDNT YOU THINK THAT TITAN WOULD SEND YOU THE CAM BUTTON IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Umm...
I would demand titan takes the engine back and sends you an Un-Run one that hasn't had a cam bouncing all over the place, scratching lifter faces and messing up distributor gears. If they don't take it, give your CCard company a call.

if they ran it before shipping, how would someone not notice the sound? maybe i guess in a dyno room the booth would muffle that sound? is it very loud?

They didn't send me a cam button either!!! I didn't know it needed one and well, it blew up after 20k miles and 2.5 years.
I can understand them not installing it there because the motors come without a timing cover on them. But if it's your first time putting on a the timing cover it's easy to be completely oblivious to the buttons existence. I had no idea about the button until I was tearing down the engine, found signs of cam walk, and did research.
I dunno if that's why my engine blew up but it still sucks.

I've never seen short or long blocks come with "tin" (vc's oilpans , timing covers) just crate motors. They should've included the spring and pin or at least a reminder though.
