Cam suggestion for my 4.5 stroker build
Im looking for a cam for my 4.5 stroker build. I would like one that has a nice lope to it. My stroker is going to be pretty basic: rebuilt stock head, no overbore (unless necessary) things along those lines. My knowledge of engines is dwarfed by those on the board, so im hoping to get some insight into what cam recommendations you guys have. Thanks.

What rpm range do you intend to operate the engine in, and what's your planned use for the Jeep?

I really don't run it that hard and don't plan too. mostly up to 2500-2700 on average. It will see almost all street driving, I really don't offroad at all. A mix of around town and freeway driving. My Jeep is on 235s and has the stock 3:55 gears as well.

If your motor is going to be a daily driver and not spun up much then you probably want to avoid a lopey cam. Stick with the smaller cams somewhere around 200*-213*ish intake duration @.050, and your stroker will be very responsive and fun to drive. I'll bet your 235 tires won't last long

Ok, what will the sound be like? (if I go with a 200*-213*ish intake duration @.050) Will it sound stock? I'd think it would be a shame to build a stroker and have it not sound like its got some hp. at least a little rumble...
oh and uhh,... hehehe.6TIME wrote:I'll bet your 235 tires won't last long

Any stroker will sound better.
if you want more "exhaust" note, build more Compression ratio and get a cam with a lot of exhaust duration.
I have a very small Crower cam and idle is definately much deeper and harsher than any 4.0L jeep out there. it just doesn't "lope" (which really is misfire) so the truck stays smooth.

I had the largest cam CompCams makes and you could BARELY tell a difference in idle from stock.

the I6 WILL NOT LOPE. its NOT like a V8 engine. it just can't develop that sound.
The CRAZIEST an I6 will sound is "poppy" through a dual exhaust, with no crossover and a large cam (misfires kinda make it gallop). other than that, all you can do is change the tone. The displacement makes it sound MUCH deeper through the exhaust you have. High COmpression and a big exhaust lobe will make it sound a bit more "raspy".

See, that is exactly why I posted here. You guys could school me all day long on engine tech and mods.
Alright, well I guess it's wishful thinking on my end, haha. Now that I know, can anybody recommend a good cam for my setup? I think ive seen a few on summit, but I really don't know who to trust as a reliable company when it comes to cams.
