Harmonic balancer

Post by woodjeep »

I'm going to cut my original balancer to make a crank spacer...it has almost 200K on it anyway. I find on line "stock-oem replacements" for anywhere from 20-100 bucks. any differences or are they all about the same...its for a 96 motor

I think he means to buy a new one to use and cut the one he has for the spacer. I don't know of any certain one being better or worse than another.

I wouldn't recommend a Performance Products balancer. You would have to make your own timing mark and mine was quite out of balance. I've also heard Dorman's aren't that good. I can tell you what not to get but I don't have a recommendation.

I went to several local junkyards and they did not have any junk ones to cut up so I figured i would cut up the one that came with the donor engine and buy a new one for the stroker. Many different prices for what appears to be same manufacturers part. I figure i will take it to my machinist for balancing anyway

When I worked at the machine shop we sold a but load of the PIONEER brand balancers, but it wouldn't surprise me if they all were from the same manufacturer?
