problems. need help.

Post by blu3fan »

so. im in process of rebuilding my 4.0 to a 4.6
the bottom end is done.
i bought this kit
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-K68-231-4/

when putting the head back together i noticed that nothing fits, i called comp cams. they told me its not supposed to fit my car...... so i called someone who is competent at hesco they explained to me that comp cams are possibly the worst company in the world at making things actually FIT. so. what are my options. the lift on the cam is too much for stock springs and the comp cams springs dont fit. neither do the valve spring retainers or anything else for that matter.
Help ! somone must have come across this problem before.

Yeah, it doesn't fit. Return the kit and just get the cam and lifters. Use Mopar performance springs, retainers and locks, Pontiac springs and retainers (search here) or Lafrad's spring setup listed in FAQs under Misc parts. Or use Hesco's springs and have the head machined. You may need to have the head machined for valves anyhow. Mopar is the drop in solution, but $$$.

im confused for this reason.
the engine was a 4.0
im rebuilding it to a 4.6 following various guides on the internet.
the cam is from compcams same with the lifters. nothing on the head fits. mopar doesnt make the correct springs, am i misunderstanding ? they only sell the stock valve locks springs and retainers. but the comp cams kit gives more lift than stock springs can hold. just really not getting how this is supposted to work.
do the 4.2 amc head parts (springs locks and retainers) fit on the 4.0 head ?

NO! He told you above that the "kit" won't fit. That's because the springs n such in it are for the 4.2 The cam and lifters are same for both, but not the valvetrain. If you look around on here you can find several different spring/retainer setups. Just depends on your budget and needs.

The Mopar Performance spings P5249464 with Mopar Performance retainers P4452032 will fit the 4.0 valves. Springs install at the same hight as the stock springs and are good for up to .525 lift. There are different spring/retainer combinations that others have used on this board (do some searching), but the mopar spring/retainers are the only drop in combo, that I know of, that will work.
