correct me if i'm wrong please

ok so from what i've been reading is scr relates to your power and dcr relates to what kinda fuel you can use. right now my recipe has a scr of 9.44 and a dcr of 7.9. i'm thinking about milling my head down so i can raise my scr to 9.8 or so which will put my dcr around 8.2 roughly. now what i'm trying to figure out is why do some folks only ping at higher rpm? is it because their quench sucks? is their afr off? right now my quench is gonna be in the .040 to .044 depending on head gaskets and compression of the gasket so i'm fairly tight on my quench and hoping by taking a few cc's out of my head to raise my compression i won't also be increasing my ping. i don't mind running 93 octane since i do it in my dd anyways but i'd rather be able to run 91 or 89 if at all possible and save me some pennies.

also i know you guys have been saying that desktop dyno isn't anywhere close to actualy numbers but it has my recipe making 224 hp at 4000 rpm and 320 torque at 3000 rpm the flywheel and for some reason that just doesn't sound right to me with my current scr of 9.44 and bumping it up to 9.8 get's me like 10 hp and 20 ft/lb's. i'm considering sending my pistons back and getting the 945 so i can raise my compression higher but wanna hear some opinions first

99 block with 0 deck
kb 944 pistons .020 over
4.0 rods
258 longnose 4 wt crank
0630 head
.043 head gasket
.043 quench or whatever the head gasket actually compresses to
debating on the 63502 or the 63501 lunati cam still. kinda leaning towards the 63501

works out to a scr of 9.44 and a dcr or 7.9 with the 63502 cam
