I have done a lot of searching over the last few days on this forum, among others, but I still have a few questions I cant seem to find answers for. I have a stock 98 XJ that I want to put a 'poor man's stroker' into. The Jeep is my DD so I plan on buying a comlpete engine from a another 96-98 and rebuilding that in my spare time. I have never rebuilt a total engine before but I am fairly mechanically inclined and feel I can pull this off. Anyways onto the questions...
-Will the 'poor man's stroker' recipe from Dinos webpage actually run on 87 octane in my Jeep with the only other modifications being a '00+ intake and new header/exhaust?
-Since I have a 98 with the higher flowing of the factory fuel systems, I dont need to worry about upgrading this department at all without fear of running lean?
-Are the 677cp's still available and where are you guys getting them?
-Do most of you start out with any kind of basic engine rebuild kit for the bearings/seals/gaskets/etc.?
-This stroker kit from RPM Machine looks to basically be the poor mans stroker kit. Is this kit any good or does anyone have experience with them? Does this kit include any of the bearings/seals/gaskets/etc.? Also, does this crank have the correct snout for the serpentine belt on my year? How is the low CR from this kit figured (i.e. stock block, head milling etc.?) It should work with regular fuel...right?
I am very worried about pinging and running too lean with this motor so I want as low of a CR as possible to avoid it. I just want this to be as simple to put together as possible because I dont really like/trust myself with all the math work and scavenging parts from all over the place. Thank you all in advance for any help you can give me!

Re: Newbie questions on 'poor mans stroker'
Mine runs on 87 octane with the stock Champion RC12LYC plugs. SCR is 9.25:1, DCR is 7.35:1, and quench is 0.088". I'm running Ford Racing 24lb injectors with a homebrew MAP adjuster set at 5.2v. Dyno numbers in my sig. were with the '01 XJ intake.StevieRT wrote:-Will the 'poor man's stroker' recipe from Dinos webpage actually run on 87 octane in my Jeep with the only other modifications being a '00+ intake and new header/exhaust?

Re: Newbie questions on 'poor mans stroker'
Would you say you needed the injectors and adjustable map circuit or was it that you were looking for more power? Also where do you find the pistons for this recipe? I cant seem to find them after googling. Thanks.

Re: Newbie questions on 'poor mans stroker'
The 24lb injectors were absolutely essential and even then, my engine ran slightly lean at the stock 5.0v MAP voltage so I needed the MAP adjuster to enrich it.StevieRT wrote:Would you say you needed the injectors and adjustable map circuit or was it that you were looking for more power? You can find the 677CP pistons under part no. STL-677CP at Summit Racing.

Re: Newbie questions on 'poor mans stroker'
Thanks for all the help. The pistons in the summit link said not available, but they substituted the 677ACP. Is this the same and will they work in a 98 block? I thought I read somewhere that I have to watch out for metric sizing in my year or something along those lines.
I noticed in your recipe you call for the stock fuel system in the 96+. Is this a stretch then I take it? Should I at least upgrade to the 24lb? Thanks again!

Those pistons will work fine and require the Imperial size rings to match.StevieRT wrote:Thanks for all the help. The pistons in the summit link said not available, but they substituted the 677ACP. The stock 23.3lb injectors would probably still work but they might be too close to their maximum for comfort. Accel 24lb'ers should work fine as they'll flow 25.5lb/hr at 49psi and leave some headroom.StevieRT wrote:I noticed in your recipe you call for the stock fuel system in the 96+.
