Crank Pulley??

Post by hvacman »

I was goign to put on the crank pulley and it is fitting real tight.

So I got to thinking. Are the pulleys from the 4.o and the 4.2 different? Should I use the 4.2 pulley?

If I have to use the 4.2 pulley, do they make a pulley that uses a serpentine belt setup? My old 4.2 pulley is for a v-belt.

Also, I noticed that the shop that did the rebuild left a "shim" or something inside the timing cover. It appears it may be a dust shield for the seal. I say this becasue there is a slot cutout for the keyway on the the front of the crank. Guess I need to pull the timing cover and remove it. It just rattles around in the timing chain area.

You need to use the 4.0 harmonic balancer on a stroker. You'll need to put a 1cm thick spacer in front of it if you have the longer nosed '72-'86 4.2 crank.

Thanks.

I used the crank out of an 89 258. Hope it is the right size. If not, I will get the spacer from Hesco.

The "oil slinger" is supposed to be in there.

This slinger is extremely loose around the crank. Are they usually pretty loose?

It also has a keyway slot cut in it. If it went on below the key way, I would have thought it would not have a keyhole slot.

It is all good though. It appears I don't have to remove the front cover.

Its will be lose until the crank is tightened up against it. It goes all the way against the crank.

In that case you won't need the spacer. The '87-'90 258 cranks have the same 54mm long nose as the 4.0 cranks.
