So I am searching Craigslist for 258 Rods and this guy is selling a whole setup for a sroker block heads the works. I email him asking for detials. Its an '89 based project. I asked him if he would sell just the crank and rods as I already have an '01 block. Besides him saying no, he also informed me that i had a bad choice of block and that 89 is the best block to base a stroker off of.
I ask this. If the 99+ #53010449 NVH have the extra webbing and added the girdle. Why would an '89 be better. The 99+ blocks seem to be the best all around choice but that's me.
Quote "the HO block is not the way to go with a storker"...
Opinions?

While there is possibly more nickle content in the Renix blocks there is no real reason to go with a Renix block. The guy is talking out of his ass... he probably just wants to sell you his block.
Reminds me of a post on NAXJA where someone was told that you can make a 5.0L stroker using sleeves, Dodge 318 pistons and rods.

I am not sure but I think I intended to put this in the pub section. Moderators feel free to move it.

Re: Craigslist guy right?
I think this thread is right where it needs to be
I think i also read somewhere that the cylinder walls on the RENIX had a tendency to be a little thicker ... but for all i know its bad information.

I'd be more worried about getting a block that has the correct bosses and holes for you specific application.

Well I was just trying to get the parts from him. I already have a 2001 4.0 out of an XJ going into a 96 XJ.

Re: Craigslist guy right?
Oh yes, the good old craigslist. Some of those people don't have a dam clue what they have. I've sold things on CL and told interested buyers the truth about my parts going into there vehicles of different years. Telling them it won't fit because of spline counts. People are always amazed when I tell them this. There like "WOW! thanks for being honest with me...you could have lied to me and i would have bought it" but thats just not me and i would've felt like shat if i did.
