Normal. That is suppose to be there. You would have thought that they could make a nicer looking hole.

Ha Ha!! i asked that same question at another forum and felt like a total noob when i got the answer!
yea, supposed to be there. my 93 block has that too, looks almost identical. also notice the ones by the lifter bores. i was told that if i was energetic i could take a file and clean them up. havent yet, but im tempted still when i finally get into mine

WAIT WAIT wait! Are you guys messing with me? The piston even has marks from where it was hitting the valve.... That hole is really supposed to be there?

Yes. that hole is suppose to be there. Look at it. The hole is old. If it was caused by the pushrod you would see some freshly exposed metal. Also, did you find the piece that broke off yet?

Re: Looking for some advice, building a 4.7
Wow that is hilarious. I completely had myself convinced it was a hole put there by the push rod and totally how it happened.
The piston does have valve marks on it and there is a ding on top of where that oil galley plug is that I was sure was caused by the push rod, but I guess thats not why. Anyway, its all over at the machine shop getting worked on. Can't wait to see it when I get back home again in a few weeks. Thanks for all the help and pictures! Next time i'm home I will start the build thread with all the pictures and what not and all the nice clean finished parts.

Re: Looking for some advice, building a 4.7
It sounds like a valve got stuck open, which caused the push rod to come lose as well as the valve colliding with the piston.

Re: Looking for some advice, building a 4.7
Does anyone have any concrete evidence that cam savers are worth it for our motors? Trying to decide if I want to go with those or just the Mopar Performance lifters... Thx

Re: Looking for some advice, building a 4.7
The camsaver is a good lifter to begin with (Johnson/Topline units). I don't know if they work, but take into consideration that the lifter is constantly spinning, so there is only a small percentage of time that they are actually in teh correct orientation to dump the oil where it needs to be. On the lobe prior to it going under the lifter.

Re: Looking for some advice, building a 4.7
Solid lifter flat tappet cams and hydraulic lifter camshafts use the same cam cores yet the solid lifter cams run up to a 100 lbs more spring pressure. If you are on a hydraulic cam, which would be the assumption considering your question it would seem to be a frivolous item.

Re: Looking for some advice, building a 4.7
So I got my Cam and lifters, Harmonic Balancer spacer, valve springs, retainers and keepers/locks ordered. Jegs price matched O'reillys. My question is I ordered 12 of PN P5249464, valve springs, 12 of PN P4452032, retainers and 1 of PN P4529218, keepers/locks. Am I correct in saying I should have oredered 2 of PN P4529218, keepers/locks? Looks like they come in Pkgs of 16 and I will need 24 of them, correct? Also this is what I will need for stock valves with an 0630 head right?
Thanks,
Tom

Correct, you need 24 keepers. I'm sipping on some Dogfishhead 60 minute.

Re: Looking for some advice, building a 4.7
Do your valves have 3 groove locks? If so just run the stock locks. The Mopar Peformance locks should be 1 groove.
