confused on block FAQ

Post by gonridnu »

Hey I'm a little confused by your block posting on the FAQ page.....
1989 4.0 Engine
Deck height = 9.429 - 9.435 inch or 239.49 - 239.64 mm
.0215 inch or .546 mm below deck
CR ? Different normally reliable source 9.45:1
Pin bore CL to top of piston 1.651 - 1.655 inch or 41.94 - 42.04 MM

1999 4.0 engine
Deck height = 9.450 - 9.456 inch or 240.03 - 240.18 mm
.0215 inch or .546 mm below deck
8.8:1 CR
Pin bore CL to top of piston 1.599 - 1.603 inch or 40.61 - 40.72 MM
The deck height appears to be shorter on the 89 engine and the pin cl to top of piston higher yet the piston is listed as .215 in the hole on both 89 and 99....what gives?

Your are not the only one confused. I posted that some time ago looking for clarification. I reference the source of the information. I still don't know if it was a misprint or..................

If we end up using the 90 block over the 96 in my brother's build, I'll post the deck height dimension. If those dimensions are correct(-.02x" than the newer blocks), we'll have to use the 96, cause he's already got the eagles and ross' based off the 9.45x" dimension.

I have both an older and a newer block in the shop now so I can measure them however the older block had been rebuilt so I will not know if the decked it or not. Doesn't really matter to me now 'cause I bought a '96 block to build the stroker with. Just confused me when I joined the site...
