head bolt torque specification

I am having a confusing time.
I have a haynes manual and it says for my 1989 4.0 block that I should use 85 pounds of torque on my headbolts. I have another chart that says I need to use 110# on all bolts except driver front bolt in water jacket that gets 100#

who is correct? that is a large difference.

block is 1989 4.0 020 over and head is a 1991 7120. using the 051 felpro gasket.

That's the correct one. Don't forget to use thread sealant on the bolt that goes into the water jacket.

wayyy too true about the haynes manual.. BUT-its a stop-gap measure when my hands are too dirty to touch a keyboard.

and thanks for the reminder -cheromaniac- about the thread sealer. i use permatex.

I've also used PTFE "pipe dope" with excellent results on that screw. Haven't tried RTV - I'm not sure how it would hold up to the heat (that screw is close to an exhaust port, as I recall.) However, PTFE usually holds up to heat rather well - what do you think makes "non-stick" pans non-stick?
