Header Choices for a 4.6

Post by 00xj74 »

I am in the last stages of my 4.6 stroker build and am to the point of needing a header and exhaust system. I am wondering what is a good header for a reasonable price. For my exhaust i plan on doing a 2.5 inch dynomax cat back with high flow cat.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm a big fan of Borla, but they are big $($500+ now--I got mine when they were around $400). The only other aftermarket header for the 4.0 I like is the Clifford($350ish)--you can get creative with the dual outlet. What I see a lot of XJers getting is the APN($150). The Dynomax cat-back is nice(my brother has one and I bought one for a friend), but I believe it's 2.25"(at least the XJ one is).

ok I thought it was a 2.5 but i could be wrong. what is a good 2.5 inch cat back then if the dynomax one is only 2.25?

I'm running a ss magnaflow 2.5" muffler:

and a ss tailpipe:

*needs the hanger after muffler welded on*

Here's a nice 2.5" magnaflow cat w/ o2 bung:

Basically you can have a nice SS exhaust from cat-->tail for ~$250.

I have a set of pacesetter headers set into a super 40 and out the back of my yj and love them. They sound great and offer a nice bit of hp and torque for the money, complete from block into the cat its costs about 280 300 shipped from pacesetter. They run a lil hot like any other header but well worth it.

Ok i just recieved my pacesetter header today. I measured the pipe and its 2.25, would this be enough flow or would it be better to make the pipe 2.5 right after the header and all the way to the end. Are you guys using a high flow cat or just a regular cat.
