Looking at building a stroker
I've got a 2.5L Jeep Wrangler YJ. I've been far more into building a suspension and other rockcrawling mods until this point, so my knowledge of engine internals is limited so I would appreciate your help. I'm looking to do an engine swap and I already have a 4.0L engine and I was thinking about stroking the motor while its out. I was playing with the calculator on the site and noticed little change in the numbers when I used the figures for the 4.2L rods. What is the gain and could you use 4.0L rods with the 4.2L crank? Also, where is the best place to put your money if your funds are limited?

Re: Looking at building a stroker
Alright, I did some more research and found the answers to my questions. I'm thinking about waiting to see how the motor turns out before I commit to the stroker project, but time will tell for sure.

Re: Looking at building a stroker
You're better off building the stroker from the outset rather than running the 4.0 and then pulling it out again. You could take a look at the "recipes" on my site and decide which one closest fits your needs and budget. Then pull the 4.0 apart, decide which parts need replacing, and refurbish the head. This allows you to take your time, gather parts, and build it up as time and budget allow. This usually produces the best results for the lowest cost.
Another thing to consider is that your tranny won't cope with the extra torque of a 4.0 (or stroker) so you'll need to look into replacing it. My suggestion would be the AX15 5-speed manual (easy swap if you already have the AX5).
