CAM Suggestions

Post by cjackson3396 »

Ok here we go again..I'm building a mild budget 4.7 for my 96 xj. I was looking for suggestions as on where to go with the cam and valve train. I'm looking for as much power and economy I can get...a happy medium. My budget is really cheap also so I can't do alot of machien work and such.

Iwould suggest the Hesco cam RVOB6

http://www.hesco.us/shop.asp?action=det ... catId=7758

Also checkout http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewt ... =15&t=1482

Only problem is that it is about $100.00 more than you would pay for a cam from sombody else. They do have a cam selection chart on the bottom of the page that shows all the cams they make.

We have had several threads on cams and cam selection. You should probably review them as well as the FAQ section and Dino's pages.

I am running an Engle cam 214 duration @.050 /.501 lift / 112 lobe centers, with Mopar Performance springs and . The M.P. springs are the only drop in spring, that I know of, for the Jeep 4.0. You will also need the M.P. retainers.

I like the Engle cam. My stroker pulls good, no computer problems, and my gas milage has stayed the same.

Regardless of what cam you choose you will need to do some sort of fuel mod. Installing large injectors, map sensor adjuster, piggy back, or any combination. As fro cam selections, you may have a few misconceptions. There are numerous cams that work fine with the stock PCM.

.0015 -> .002 is on the "tight" side of acceptable, but still acceptable. I'd go with it!
