Head and Valvetrain combos

Post by Biggrnjeep97 »

So, Im squaring up the bottom end of my engine and starting to focus on the cyl. head. Ive looked at a handful of other projects to get and idea of what everyone else is doing to theres and why. Everything is on the table. Valve combos, 3- and 5- angle jobs, spring combos, roller rockers, PnP, cams, intake, the list goes on. Im hoping that there are some team players here that are willing to give a list of there head mods AND why they went the way they did.
I'll start off with my combo. Some of its still open ended, but hey, its a start.
Im using a 0630 head (got 3 of em!), 30ab cam, prob. banks torque tube, and a mild PnP/gasket match w/ 00 Xj intake. My thoughts were stock valves w/ 3- angle, MP springs/retainers, and a lil polishing to the combustions chambers (~60cc).

PS.-Any one used/heard of extrude honing? http://www.extrudehone.com/

I have the same head, but after recieving the mopar performance springs and locks, i really wasn't happy with what I saw.... the setup takes up a TON of room, really requires a strong rocker/pushrod setup for "comfort", may require valvecover modifications, etc etc etc...

So I asked some questions and came up with this:

I'm rather happy with the result so far... the engine is going in the jeep tonight... probably start it up next week!

On my head I used stock valves did a home PnP, 3 angle valve job with valves back cut 30*, and went with Mopar Performance springs with the head cut to bring seat load to 100#. I also ported the intake manifold and used a Doug Thorley header. I have a thread on here on the PnP I did along with my build thread.

I looked into the extrude hone, and it was damn expensive! I think I may have posted some prices on here at some time.

i was going for Banks TT myself, but after reading/talking i found out it was not a good option. At least based on my research Banks is a nice piece with Lifetime war. HOWEVER YOU WILL BE USING THE WARRANTEE to replace the cracked header, since it seems the matter of time. As far as performance it had minimal gains over the FACTORY HEADERS. So if you have later OEM style with the flex joints the banks don't really give you much return for the $. In my case my factory non-flex joint header is CRACKED. so I am simply going for stainless steel OEM style 1auto.com one.... just a thought
