ilber's stroker
Greeting group.
I have been lurking around for a while, but I never have posted, actually registered just a few weeks back.
I have a 93 yj, 260k miles
5 speed, SYE, TW double cardan drive shaft, currier hi-pinion rear with track lock, d44 narrow track front with arb, 35", alcan custom springs ( 14" over factory), OBA ( kilby bracket, york,15 gal tank, twin big rig horns), dual batteries and whole bunch of things to make me happy...
just a few weeks ago decided to pull the triger and start the built of spare engine. factory one ok for exception when warmed up and idling- very low oil pressure...nothing meant to go for ever
so my receipt:
using
93 block .060
7120 head
12cw crank (.010/.010, cut snout off 10mm, chamfered oil holes, was a hell to find one, not too heavily undecut and for semi-reasonable$)
707 rods
UEM2229 dishing 28cc
68-232-4 comp cam with their lifters and probably springs
I am going for zero deck
custom length push rods...Trend performance
adjustable roller rockers....harland sharp?do i need guide plates?
.043" HG
map adjuster,
adj. FPR
24# FMS blue tops
63mm t-body with spacer
i think this covers the basics
it is a shop assembled long block with blue print and balance. I am shooting for a reliable engine with fun(torque) potential for this toy.
I have an idea of ~$4500 to spend will see where i end up...
So far achieved:
crank-done
rods+ARP hardware-done
spare engine block and head at the shop
2229-.060 order waiting to be shipped to Leigh Machine shop
No pics of cool parts, just starting my adventure...

Re: ilber's stroker
Harland Sharp makes 3 different style roller rockers for the 4.0. The directions for the stud mount rockers say to mill .400 off the rocker bosses. If you go with the stud mount I would not mill that much off. I used Crower roller rockers with comp guide plates and studs. The comp guide plates are part #4842, the comp studs are part #4542(5/16 on bottom, and 3/8 on top). I had the machine shop mill .400 off the rocker bosses. That does not leave many threads for the adjusting nut. With the Crower rocker arms, there doesn't need to be that much milled off(there is plenty of clearance), I'm not sure about the Harland Sharp. I think you would have more than enough clearance with .200-.250 milled off.

Re: ilber's stroker
Also, you can not use the comp springs. They are for a 258 and will NOT work with the 4.0 valves.

Re: ilber's stroker
update:
bought:
ComCam and lifters: cl64-232-4
Cloyes 9-3127 double roller
Harland Sharp S40916A adjustable bolt-in rollers, no guide plates, but need a tall valv cove ( don't want spacers for VC and t-stat) any suggestions on the tall valve cover besides NAXJA guy ( still waiting on reply from him, but want to explorer alternatives)
I need factory-size valves, springs, locks/reteiners that would work for 68-232-4. any suggestions? my machinist was telling me CompCam but I do see only 258 ones
Total for today:794.89
So far Project total:1,478.60

Re: ilber's stroker
P5249464 springs
P4452032 retainers
P4529218 keepers/locks
These should be the go-to combination for any cam(or stock cam&1.7rr combo) with lift .043-.0525".

Re: ilber's stroker
Ok i spoke with benny at hesco, a cool guy-very helpful!
got a list of parts, but seems that MP items are better option, so i grew a pair ( or just wasted money)- you tell me
P5249464 springs-12
P4452032 retainers-12
P4529218 keepers/locks -had to get 2 sets of 8
P5249875- standard replacement-6
P5249880-STANDARD, 6
got is from summit. spoke with Daryl-the dude not only matched the csk/o'rilley priced but beat on average ~5%
example P5249880 at summit 27.95/per valve, CSK-17.99, daryl's price $17. The dude gave me smoking deals and I am even not on his family tree/nor promised not to date his daughter
so another $365.69
total coming to $1844.29

Re: ilber's stroker
actually i have seen the MP parts even cheaper @ http://www.mopartsracing.com/index.html
but summit has not upset me much yet ( i didn't ordered from them for 7 years after they managed to piss me off over a $50 turbo gauge, but so far for this project i have ordered majority from them)

Re: ilber's stroker
got 6 rebuilt kits for ford injectors ( pintle cap, 2 o-rigs and the plastic spacer).
looking for head gasket but believe teardown set from MP would have it, will call MP on monday to double check, will order oil pump and sealed power pickup tube. I do need to order the rings...
Perfect circle? moly? I am using 2228 pistons... anyone got suggestions?

Re: ilber's stroker
more spending:
frpm Jeff @ Leigh Machine/strokedjeep.com
93 63mm T-body
T-body spacer (standard finish)
93 FPR
MAP adjuster
27cc dishing pistons
Zoom Performance clutch
ARP Head bolts and crank bolt and washer
I believe, other than 1700-2000 from machine shop i would need cam bearings ( $25)
Shorter Pusrods ( trend performance) $150
And tall valve cover ?
and various misc crap that i am not thinking about right now
Project running total: $3060
Pending charges: $2300
on a different note.
can I use 258 oil pan? I am waiting on a pick up tube anyways, my understanding the sump location is different as well the 258 is defiantly beefier vs 4.0.
what's you suggestion guys?
