0331 valve spring help
Im using the 0331 head off my 2001 cherokee on my stroker and ive read these have the conical springs. i plan on running comp cams 68-232-4. Can i still use the mopar performance p5249464 valve springs even though they arent conical springs. and i think the 2001 valves have three grooves but the keepers listed to use with those springs are single grooved-p4529218. Any help on what i should use would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 0331 valve spring help
Yes you can use the P5249464 valve springs. You should be able to use the stock 3 groove retainers. I do believe they are still 8 degree and should work with the MP retainers. Not 100% sure.jeepota wrote:Im using the 0331 head off my 2001 cherokee on my stroker and ive read these have the conical springs. i plan on running comp cams 68-232-4. Re: 0331 valve spring help
Also some of the early 0331 heads are known for cracking. I don't know what year Chrysler fixed them. So you might want to try to find out before you put a lot of money into the head.

Re: 0331 valve spring help
Well i guess we will see. Ordering the retainers and springs soon and ill post when i find out. As far as my head it was fluxed and pressure tested with no cracks at 150,xxx miles. Hopefully they fixed it before they produced my head cause its already been resurfaced and got a fresh valve job with some new exhaust guides and seats.
Thanks alot guys.

Re: 0331 valve spring help
The definitely DID NOT fix it in 2001. Supposedly it was 2003 of 2004 in which it was fixed.dwg86 wrote:Also some of the early 0331 heads are known for cracking. I don't know what year Chrysler fixed them. So you might want to try to find out before you put a lot of money into the head.

The stock three groove locks are 8* and they will work with the mopar retainers, they are the locks I am using.

Re: 0331 valve spring help
The older single groove radius lock keepers are 7 degree, this is for sure. So the newer three groove jeep stuff is 8 dgree, interesting.

Re: 0331 valve spring help
The single groove 4.0 keepers are 8 degree. The 258 valves have 7 degree keepers.

P5249464 - Springs
and the
P4452032 - Retainers
and you are using those with the stock valves and valve locks?
I just installed one and the valve tip is BELOW the surface of the retainer... that just doesn't seem right to me...

Re: 0331 valve spring help
Now you're gonna make me dig through the shed to find the P4529218 keepers I used so I can compare them to the stock ones. I reused the stock valves, w/ a 3 angle valve job.

Re: 0331 valve spring help
Do the older, single groove valves fit the later model heads?
