Early Model Block ?

Post by bbarrett »

First off let me say HI as this being my first post. I have been in the Jeep business for years, But this is my first 6 cylinder stroker. I have always dealt with the 134 f head or the 304 V-8. Anyway i now have a 87 Wrangler with the 4.2, I have did all the usual mods, Head, weber, bypass, ect. It has a hard top with air, 3.08 gears and is in very good shape, Even still has the orignal paint that shines. And i do Love my jeep. But this is where my problem lies. It just don't have enough grunt on the highway at speeds. With the air on and cruising at 65+ mph any little hill will case speed lose. So i have decided to do the stroker thing rather than going to forced induction ( which i love also, I have a street car that is Blown). I bought a 93 cherokee with a 4.0 but upon cleaning and inspecting the block, I think it is cracked (see pictures). Well now i have came upon what i believe is a 87 4.0 block that has been bored .040 and need .010 more taken out to clean the bores up. This is where my question lies. This older block doesn't look like the 93 block and i cant seem to find any info about a 87 4.0. I have taken some measurements and all the bearings and stuff seem to be the same. But my question is, Has anyone used these blocks? Are they weaker or stronger than the later models? I will have it sonic tested before i go with the .060 bore but has anyone bored one this big? was there any heating issues? Sorry for such a long post and the many questions but my eyes have bled out from all the reading, So i just thought id ask.
THANKS in advance for the replies.
