Re: Verdict on HV Oil Pump
I've been running a Melling HV pump for the last 30k miles with no problems (knock on wood) and the oil temp. barely reaches 180*F cruising at 75mph on a 115*F day. I'm using an SL-rated 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil and maximum oil pressure cold is 60psi, maximum hot is 50psi with a 25psi hot idle.
A stock oil pump would still be fine. The HV pump has a 25% higher flow rate so if the orifice size remains constant, you'll have a 25% higher oil pressure. Unless the bearing clearances are loose, a HV pump isn't necessary. Otherwise you'll only need to use a lower viscosity oil to keep the oil pressures down and prevent premature distributor gear wear.

Re: Verdict on HV Oil Pump
I am having an ongoing process that is reallllly a pain in the rear. I developed an abscess in that area and this will be the 9 surgeon to look at it and the third to try it. I have had 6 surgery since December 16.2008 I see the end in sight no pun intended. This Titan motor was installed in 2006 but I have only been well enough to work on it every once in a while. And most of that has been pulling it in and out for repair, Titan Mother F^c!ers! I got it apart but now I am down for two more weeks. I will post up the findings and the fix. Ya guys i know the HV pump is not really needed but I will try anything now. My friends 8.25 Mustang showed the same thing when changing oil weights and pump pressure, and I have suffered a cam gear but I will keep the oil weight down and I am a strong believer in warming an engine up before heading out. I live by that because of my diesel truck experience. Ca you tell i am bored and Sitting in the Hospital too long. Sorry:(crustodd wrote:Hey Brian E,
