Just posted our build, and got thinking, with all this torque should I re-gear to
3.55 from the 3.73 trailer towing package. This is my sons daily driver, but I
will be using it to tow an 18' aluminum jet sled. I would like to see the bump
in milage with the 3.55, but am I shooting myself for boat towing? The boat
and two axel trailer weigh right at 3000lbs.

Re: Stroker Gearing Question
I would test the stroker, with the gears you alread have. But, you my find that it could go even taller gear.......3.07

Or maybe just run a taller tire.

Re: Stroker Gearing Question
I'm running the stock 3.07 gears with stock-sized 27.4" tires and the gearing is exactly right for my set-up.
It's certainly easier to go to taller tires rather than taller gears and just correct the speedo with a different speedo gear.

Re: Stroker Gearing Question
Unless you have tools and knowledge to do a ring/pinion job yourself, I personally wouldn't waste the money going from 3.55 to 3.73. It isn't that much of a jump and it will run you around $1300 from what I've seen. With a stroker you should have plenty of power to pull your boat. Not sure if you have an auto or manual transmission which will make a difference. I have all the performance parts possible for my 2001 XJ 4.0 with a heavy steel rims, bumpers, winch, etc..I have the 5spd 3550 and when I put my lift and 31's on, my 3.07's didn't cut it. I went to 3.73's but that is for daily driving and mild offroad. If this was a trail rig, it would be 4.10's (or if I towed). To the point, if you have a stroker with a close to stock tire setup, I think your 3.55's will be fine.

Re: Stroker Gearing Question
It has the 3.73 gearing stock, I was contemplating putting in a set of 3.55 to
improve daily milage. But not until the engine has a couple thousand miles
on it, probably more like 5k.

Re: Stroker Gearing Question
I'll trade you my 3.55s for your 3.73s.
